Simple Computer and Software Database
SCSDB was created to assist me in tracking our computer and network inventory at a school
while making desktop support calls. I use it to track all attached hardware in my network.
It is a work in progress, constantly evolving.
I'm also expanding it to cover the software installed to all computers installed in our network
in an attempt to simpliflify software licenses management.
This is my solution for a simple web based database when a record can be edited at the workstation
that refers to the workstation database record. No more notes jotted down on scraps of paper
while doinmg desktop support that get lost by the end of the day. If the workststion is down, just
pop open a browser on your inexpensive Pocket PC. Use the notes fields for building a maintence
record for each piece of equipment.
I looked around for both free and licensenced management tools, but found most too expensive,
overy complicated or just to tedius to use.
It is currently in use to assist in determing who is next in line for new hardware. That information
is now at my finger tips. It also is helping me make hardware purchase forcast to present to
our school board.
Reports are currently generated using Open Offices Base which connects to the MySQL
database engine via ODBC.
